Dentsu Lab

ABOUT

A live performance project unveiled at the opening event of Art Fair Tokyo, one of the largest international art fairs in Japan. Using William Bouguereau's painting "The Birth of Venus" as a motif, we created haute couture for Venus by using a mix of technologies.

PROCESS

VR, AR, and AI are beginning to be used in various initiatives, but there are still many issues and the technologies have hidden potential uses. For example, while VR is expected to be used in various creative endeavors, it has the issue that the content is difficult to understand for anyone other than the person wearing the HMD , making it difficult to share the excitement with others.

PROCESS

This time, we used a 3D drawing tool in VR to design the dress. The piece was reproduced in 3D in the venue by Koshino Junko and "dressed" on the real Venus statue, allowing visitors to share the experience without wearing an HMD. Furthermore, we used AI that learned the painting style of the painter Bouguereau to combine the created dress with the original painting, completing it as a "art work".

RESULT

The free canvas of VR. An exhibition method using AR. Co-creation with AI. This is an unprecedented way of creating a painting, and we presented a completely new form of live drawing performance with the entire process as the content.
